PrideScript Pharmacy PrEP Program

Expanding HIV prevention through community pharmacies

PrideScript is a university-led public health initiative that partners with community pharmacies to provide HIV and hepatitis C prevention, testing, and substance use support services.

Supported by the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Foundation and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), the program integrates evidence-based prevention and treatment into routine pharmacy practice across Southern California.

California law allows trained pharmacists to initiate PrEP and PEP. PrideScript provides the guidance and support needed to deliver these services safely and in compliance with state requirements.

Why This Program Matters

Riverside and San Bernardino Counties (collectively known as the Inland Empire) include large rural areas with limited access to HIV prevention and care. More than 14,000 people in the region are living with HIV, and nearly one in five infections remains undiagnosed. New cases continue to rise, particularly among communities of color and people who use substances.

Despite high need, fewer than 10% of people who could benefit from PrEP in the Inland Empire are currently using it. Community pharmacies help close this gap by providing trusted, local access to same-day prevention, adherence support, and referrals to ongoing care.

Community pharmacists can play a central role in expanding access to HIV prevention.

PrideScript provides the training, tools, and support to make pharmacy-led PrEP and PEP delivery feasible, compliant, and sustainable.
